Brighton Syrian Musicians: Vinyl Record

& Community Support.

As a celebration of diversity and a fundraiser in collaboration with the Sussex Syrian Community Group and Refugee Radio, we set out to release a vinyl record with musicians from the Sussex Syrian Community Group, Alaa (Oud & Vocals) and Jamal (Percussion).

During October 2017, we ran a crowd fund campaign to cover costs of the vinyl, so that every penny generated from sales would go to the Syrian Community Hardship Fund. With an initial aim of raising £1000, by closing, donations reached £1100.

The pictures below document some of the  recording and mixing sessions, plus an event they were invited to play at on the last night of the crowd fund.

The event was in Southbourne, West Sussex at the Tuppenny Barn in aid of a separate charity Children on the Edge, which provides schooling for Syrian children in refugee camps in Lebanon. We attended with Alaa and Jamal, plus Nadine who chairs the Sussex Syrian Community Group. The event was a great success, and it was nice to be invited to play at something that resonated with the us all. Organised and by Juliet Graham of catering company Mesdames Green & Graham and Eloise Armstrong from the charity, there was a delicious middle eastern meal, and a great atmosphere all night.

The vinyl will be available in spring 2018, there will also be a digital download and bonus tracks online. All money from sales will go to the Sussex Syrian Community Hardship Fund.

Huge thanks to everyone who has supported this project, both via the crowd fund, helping with promotion, advice, support, friendship, cups of tea and everything else along the way.

The audio in the clip below is from the Children on the Edge fundraiser, we'll update this page as soon as the vinyl is ready for release.
